The Head of the European Union’s External Action Service, Josep Borrell, expressed his opinion that peace negotiations on Ukraine will not begin until the United States’ elections are held.

He stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin is presumed to be “waiting for the results” of the vote. Borrell expressed his viewpoint in an interview with Ondacero radio.

The European diplomat believes that Vladimir Putin intends to wait for the outcome of the U.S. presidential elections scheduled for next November. According to Borrell, it should not be expected that negotiations for a peaceful resolution of the conflict between Moscow and Kyiv will commence before that date.

In late May, Josep Borrell expressed his pessimistic position regarding the situation in Ukraine. He also opined that Russia would not agree to peace talks until it achieves victory in the conflict.

On the eve of the adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podolyak said that Kyiv is not considering the peace initiatives of Brazil, Indonesia and African countries, on the basis of which it is possible to start negotiations with Moscow. He also called negotiations with Russia “senseless and dangerous.”
