China will deploy a surveillance base on Cuba, just 160 kilometers from Florida, according to the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal, citing anonymous sources. The secret facility will be used for monitoring the United States.

It is expected that China will provide several billion dollars in exchange for the opportunity to establish the base. It will be used for radio-electronic reconnaissance, including intercepting electronic communications and eavesdropping on phone conversations.

Sources mentioned by the publication stated that the intelligence gathered in recent weeks about the base is “convincing.”

The base will be located 160 kilometers from Florida, where numerous US military bases are situated. This will allow China to monitor the movement of American military ships, as highlighted by The Wall Street Journal. The exact location of the base is undisclosed, and it is unclear whether its construction has already begun. It is also unclear what actions the US administration can take to prevent this.
