India, as chairman of the Group of Twenty (G20), didn’t invite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to attend the G20 summit, which will be held in New Delhi in September. This was stated on Thursday at a briefing for the Indian media by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

“No,” he said, answering a question about whether India extended an invitation to Zelenskiy to the G20 summit. “In our opinion, the G20 summit is attended by the G20 member states and the countries and organizations that we invited. We announced the list of invitees immediately after we assumed the G20 chairmanship,” Jaishankar said.

He stressed that “this is not the issue that was being reviewed.” “And this is an issue that we have not discussed with anyone,” the Indian minister added.

In April, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi already said that New Delhi had not extended an invitation to Zelenskiy for the G20 summit. He noted that there were no updates to the list of invitees.

India has held the presidency of the G20 since 1 December last year. The 18th summit of the association will be held on 9-10 September 2023 in New Delhi.
