According to ICAN’s Policy and Research Coordinator, Alicia Sanders-Zakre, the United States has placed approximately 150 nuclear warheads in five European countries without any official statements.

These weapons are reportedly located in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Turkey, and Italy.
“Independent experts estimate that around 150 warheads are deployed at US airbases in these countries,” she said during a briefing with accredited journalists from the Association of Correspondents Accredited to the United Nations (ACANU).
Sanders-Zakre expressed ICAN’s deep concern over the presence of this type of weaponry in any European country. She also referenced the Cuban Missile Crisis and warned that such actions could serve as potential triggers, increasing the risk of nuclear warfare. In the current situation, she criticized European countries for their hypocrisy, as they call for transparency regarding nuclear weapons while engaging in such practices.
ICAN, the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, is a global civil society organization founded in 2007. Its mission is to promote the adoption and implementation of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. In 2017, ICAN was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts.
